CPC-M: Innovative in the fight against lung diseases

Our lungs provide us with oxygen, enabling us to breathe and thus live. Patients with chronic lung disease suffer a high symptom burden and a diminished quality of life. Their breathing is impaired, they have trouble getting air in and out of the lungs, and in the worst case scenario, the lungs collapse. COPD, asthma, lung cancer and lung fibrosis are therefore the focus of the scientists and physicians at the Comprehensive Pneumology Center in Munich. We want to achieve a better understanding of lung diseases and develop new diagnostic options and therapies. Therefore we are pursuing an interdisciplinary, translational approach, also known as "bench to bedside". This means that our basic research should lead as quickly and effectively as possible to better treatment for patients. Many chronic diseases of the lungs are still considered incurable.
